Feature article on our studio in Designlines magazine
We are excited to share that we have been prominently featured in Designlines magazine in an extensive feature article on our studio! In the article by architecture writer Iris Benaroia, she delves into the roots of our passion for design excellence, sustainability, and the built environment. Iris writes, “Whether developing ideas for missing middle housing or finding ways to filter in natural light, architect Heather Dubbeldam always takes a brave and socially sustainable path.”
The article highlights our focus on sustainability, people-centered design and liveability as a cornerstone of our projects, from single-family homes to larger-scale commercial and institutional developments. In addition to celebrating our past work, the article also looks forward to our ongoing efforts to address Toronto’s housing shortage through innovative missing middle housing solutions. Our collaboration with CreateTO and other initiatives aim to bring sustainable, gentle density to the city’s established neighborhoods.
With 2023 marking our 20th anniversary, Principal Heather Dubbeldam expresses the deep interest in the social sustainability aspects of our work. The article also explores our holistic approach to architecture, emphasizing the integration of buildings with their landscapes and our integrated design approach. “It’s complete [design], where we design the architecture, interiors, landscape, even custom furniture, lighting or hardware elements, regardless of the type of project,” Heather says. “It’s very integrated, which we feel draws out the best result and enriches one’s experience in the space.”
