Canada Pavilion Shortlist – Venice Architecture Biennale 2027

We’re pleased to share that our team has been shortlisted to represent Canada with a proposal for the Canada Pavilion at the 2027 Venice Architecture Biennale. The Biennale is one of the most prestigious international platforms for architectural discourse, bringing together leading practitioners and thinkers from around the world.

Our proposal, Timber Futures, centers on a return to the expressive intelligence of wood – bringing together Indigenous knowledge, contemporary practice, and emerging fabrication technologies to frame wood as a living, intelligent material, shaped through a continuous lineage of knowledge, practice, and innovation. The exhibition aims to position Canadian architecture within a global dialogue, highlighting innovative approaches to material use and the ongoing relevance of Indigenous knowledge systems.

Led by Heather Dubbeldam, the collaborative team brings together a multidisciplinary group including Matthew Hickey of Two Row Architect, Carla Dickof of Fast + Epp, AnnaLisa Meyboom of UBC SALA, and David Correa of the University of Waterloo. Together, the team spans Indigenous knowledge, architectural practice, structural engineering, advanced fabrication, and material research, reflecting a broad and integrated approach to timber architecture in Canada.
