Bata Shoe Factory receives Active House Award

The Bata Shoe Factory, designed in collaboration with BDP Quadrangle, was honored with an Active House Award during the Active House Symposium held in Rotterdam, Netherlands. This prestigious award recognized the factory’s exceptional transformation from a shoe factory to a sustainable mixed use building in the category of “Transforming Active Spaces”.

Active House represents a progressive standard originating in Europe that expands beyond the energy-focused principles of Passive House. It emphasizes not only energy efficiency but also considerations of comfort, liveablity and environmental impact. The Active House Alliance includes diverse stakeholders such as academia, designers, developers, builders, and building industry producers who share a vision for sustainable building practices.

This Active House Award recognizes the Bata Shoe Factory project for sustainable building practices that prioritize human comfort and environmental stewardship, in addition to energy efficiency.
