Nov 2020 - Bata Shoe Factory project honoured with a 2020 Brownie Award

The Brownie Awards recognize innovators and visionaries who are dedicated to the rehabilitation of brownfield sites that were once contaminated, under-utilized and undeveloped into productive residential and commercial projects that contribute to the growth of healthy communities across Canada.

The Bata Shoe Factory has received "Best Small Project" for its highly sustainable adaptive re-use conversion into a mixed-use residential, commercial, and community building. The renovated building retained the original concrete structure, saving close to 80 percent of the original building’s embodied carbon, and uses a geothermal system for its HVAC needs, reducing CO2 emissions to nearly zero.
